DUTIES:
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner position is located in the, Department of Mental Health (DMH) and serves both Inpatient Psychiatry Service and Community Mental Health Service (service members). The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in this setting Provides primary psychiatric health care to service members and dependents for all military units stationed at Ft. Bliss, Primary psychiatric health care is defined as either or both of the two components: (1) the care the patient receives at the point of contact with the Department of Mental Health, and (2) the continued care of the individual as a health care patient.
The care is two-dimensional: (1) the identification, management and/or referral of the mental health problems; and (2) the maintenance of the patientÂ's mental health by means of preventive and health care action. Maintain records and caseload documentation as required.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Minimum Qualifications:
Degree: Applicants MUST be a graduate of an accredited masterÂ's level or doctoral program acceptable to Department of Army that prepares RNs with additional knowledge and skills to practice their clinical specialty. Licensure: Applicants MUST maintain a current, active, valid, unrestricted RN license in at least one U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction. Certification: The APRN will achieve certification by a nationally recognized certifying body appropriate to the specialty area of practice. Certification will be maintained for the duration of the individuals advanced clinical practice. Specialized Experience: One year of experience in the same or similar work equivalent to at least the next lower level (GS-11) requiring application of the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position being filled. Candidates for this position must clearly demonstrate in their resume that they possess specialized experience which involves the ability to establish appropriate and effective therapeutic relationships to motivate and redirect the behavior of psychiatric patients toward optimal occupational, social, and recreational activities; and Knowledge of psychotherapeutic interventions including theory and practice of individual therapies, behavior modification and cognitive behavior therapy, and group therapy.
Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience. Personnel security investigation required. A medical examination is required prior to employment. Hepatitis B immunization is required (direct patient contact). This position is covered by the Drug Abuse Testing Program. Applicant drug testing and random drug testing will be required. Mandatory seasonal influenza vaccinations required annually. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. Direct Deposit of pay is required.
