For complete informations about this vacancy opportunity kindly read the description below. This position reports directly to the Clinical Director. Performs advanced psychiatric work. Work involves assessing medical history and physiological, psychological, and ! behavioral factors to determine the cause(s) of mental disorders, developing plans for psychiatric treatment, and administering specialized psychiatric and medical treatments and procedures. Participates in the Forensic program, performs competency assessments and completes certifications related to the legal process, psychiatric follow up and treatment of Forensic patients. Works under minimal supervision. Examines and diagnosis psychiatric patients. Determines and prescribes psychiatric and general medical treatment and prescriptive changes in treatment as needed. Reviews patient records and files to determine the progress, effectiveness, and appropriateness of treatment services offered. Utilizes CWS in preparing patient documentation. Makes unit rounds and reviews reports, records & progress of patients. Consults with treatment program staff and presents difficult cases to a clinical conference for advice or decision. Presents cases for court proceedings to include fore! nsic & civil commitments. Consults with psychiatric staff in c! ommunity mental health programs and recommends the type and degree of psychiatric and medical treatment needed. Serves on Hospital Committees and provides overall guidance in clinical areas. Assists in planning training programs and providing training. Designs evaluation tools to ensure quality control of state programs. May perform medical and surgical procedures as delineated by hospital policy.May plan, assign and/or supervise others. Performs related work assigned. Work involves diagnosing and treating patients, and administering specialized medical treatments and/or procedures. Works under minimal direction with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Manage a process to address patient concerns related to physician care. The Clinical Director has the authority to use allocated physician resources to provide the best care possible. Whenever physician resources are not available to provide the planned level of care, the Clinical Director s! hall notify the hospital Superintendent of such a condition and recommend action necessary to maximize the level of care provided to EPPC patients
Essential Job Functions:
All patients, staff and visitors are treated with respect and dignity. Completes all work according to the highest ethical standards.
Performs psychiatric evaluation (psychiatric history and mental status examination), including Axes I-V diagnostic impressions, formulations, treatment recommendations, and BPRS. Performs AIMS assessments to document current status of involuntary movements. Documents TIMA notes. (15%)
Documents by way of dictated notes, CWS, or legible handwriting all patient encounters related to assessment, rationale for treatment interventions and other related issues in order to outline the course of hospitalization and to share important information with other caregivers thereby ensuring continuity of care. (15%)
Responds promptly to all calls relating t! o patients in order to assess the clinical situation and intervene with! appropriate measures in keeping with current standards of care. (15%)
Actively participates in the treatment team process in formulating a comprehensive multidisciplinary treatment plan in order to prescribe the most appropriate care to our patients. (15%)
Writes medication and non-medication orders in patient charts including admission and discharge orders. Seeks consultation and/or supervision when diagnostic and treatment issues arise in order to provide the most appropriate care to patients. (15%)
Provides education for patients and their families in order to promote a better understanding of psychiatric illnesses, treatment options and prognostic considerations. (15%)
Supports and facilitates the effective management of the hospital and medical staff. Ensures a safe and therapeutic environment. Adheres to the Environment of Care Plans.Participates in educational activities to keep licensure and credentials. (5%)
Demonstrates basic competency in app! lication of population-specific skills. Adheres to EPPC Policies and Procedures.Adheres to EPPC Medical Staff Bylaws, DSHS Rules & Regulations, Medicare and JCAHO standards. Participates in assigned committee meetings. (5%)
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of medicine, general psychiatry, forensic psychiatry and community psychiatry. Knowledge and understanding of the administrative policies as Medical Staff By-Laws, Rules and Regulations and DSHS Administrative Law.
Registration or Licensure Requirements:
A license to practice medicine in Texas. Completion of an accredited residency program in a medical specialty directly related to the provision of mental health or mental retardation. Demonstrated capabilities in medical practice and in clinical administration and management. Meets all other criteria for employment and medical staff appointment, as appropriate. Board certification is preferred.
Initial Sele! ction Criteria:

Candidate hired into this position will be in attendance for a mandatory New Employee Orientation (NEO) for three (3)weeks Monday - Friday from 8am to 5pm. prior to starting on the units.
