VA TEXAS VALLEY COASTAL BEND HEALTH CARE SYSTEM
The VATVCBHCS is comprised of the Corpus Christi Outpatient Clinic (CCOPC), Corpus Christi Specialty Clinic (CCOPC-S), Harlingen Outpatient Clinic (HOPC), Health Care Center at Harlingen (HCC), Laredo Outpatient Clinic (LOPC), and McAllen Outpatient Clinic (MCOPC). The VATVCBHCS is a virtual health care system providing secondary and tertiary health care in medicine, surgery, psychiatry, and rehabilitation medicine. The VATVCBHCS also operates a 100-patient Home Based Primary Care program and a 200-patient Ca! re Coordination Home Tele-Health Program. Through the utilization of 2 complex inpatient/emergency department contracts, approximately 1600 inpatient admission and 1200 ER visits are managed by VATVCBHCS. Affiliated with the University of Texas Regional Academic Health Campus, the system has an active ambulatory care program and serves as a teaching and training site for medical residents. The VATVCBHCS is responsible for an enrollee population of over 40,000 veterans and 300,000 outpatient visits annually.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

DUTIES:
As a Primary Care Physician you will contribute to the achievement to the quality care, write orders for diagnostic testing, prescribe medications, consult with specialty services and utilize computerized/electronic medical records. Major functions of the position! s include Health Risk Assessment, goal setting for prevention, and chronic disease management working with a team to provide high quality patient centered care in a clean and safe environment. You will be responsible for a set panel of patient in providing primary medical care. You will provide patient care in accordance with professional standards, core values and commitment to excellent service. As a Staff Physician within Primary Care, you will be responsible for documenting and following up with all patient encounters.
DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION:
Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

Education
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: (1)
Schools of osteopa! thic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted; (3)
Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e. Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure; (4)
For residents, graduation from an approved medical school as described above is required except as provided in M-8, Part II, chapter 1.
Licensure and Registration
- (1) Physicians (Except Residents): Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States or in the District of Columbia. The Physician must maintain a current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing, active, current licensure. (2) Residents: Current, full and unrestricted licensure to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Ter! ritory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Col! umbia before the second year of VA residency, or meet any licensure, registration or other equivalent requirements established for resident of non-VA hospitals with which the VA facility is affiliated for training purposes. The resident must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active current licensure. (3) Impaired Licensure: A physician who has, or has ever had, any license(s) revoked, suspended, denied, restricted, limited, or issued/placed in a probationary status may be appointed only in accordance with the provisions of chapter 3, section B, paragraph 14 of this part. (4) Waiver of Licensure: Licensure may be waived by the Under Secretary for Health or designee in Central Office for individuals in research or academic assignments involving no direct patient care responsibilities in accordance with current regulations.
- Completed a first-year residen! cy, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was competed. For a VA resident, the appropriate Deans Committee and Resident Review Board may recommend appointment on the basis of the candidate's acceptability for residency training. Approved residencies are: (1)

Other residencies or their equivalents which the Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. The Board may determine that the residency requirement has been met if the candidate has completed 1 year of postgraduate education.
