Physical standards - Must pass pre-employment examination DUTIES:
The West Texas VA Health Care System, Big Spring, Texas is currently seeking a board certified/board eligible Psychiatrist interested in a career with predictable hours, Monday-Friday work week with limited call duty, free from financial pressures of the private practice. This is ! a full time position located at the Community Based Outpatient Clinic i! n Abilene, Texas. The staff Psychiatrist will work with a multi-disciplinary mental health team treating Veterans in person and utilizing video tele-center-systems with a full range of diagnosis including mood disorders, PTSD, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, and substance abuse. Additional duties include psychiatric evaluations, psychiatric medication management, and coordination of Veteran's overall mental health care (including referrals for psychotherapy and monitoring therapy progress). Psychiatrist works closely with colleagues to provide comprehensive, state-of-the-art outpatient mental health care and the implementation of principles of Advanced Clinic Access in Mental Health, documents clinical activity in the patient's computerized medical record and responds to emergency consultation requests as needed. Salary will be determined by the Medical Professional Standards Board considering the applicant's experience and qualifications, along with competitive sal! aries.

DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. English language proficiency - Physicians appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
License, Registration, Certification Requirements - Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District! of Columbia. The physician must maintain a current registration in the! State of licensure if this a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. The facility Directory may waive this licensure requirement if the physician is to serve in a country other than the United States and the physician has licensure in that country.
Educational Requirements - Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
