Join the VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System as the Chief of Social Work Service. As the Chief of Social Work you will have full responsibility for the provision of complex social work services throughout the health care system. You are the full-time administrator for 50+ clinical social working including subordinate supervisory social workers. As the Chief of Social Work you have full responsibility for clinical practice, program management, education, human resource management and supervision, and organizational stewardship for social work programs. You will oversee programs that include social work for inpatient (contract) and outpatient services ! and treatments for patients in general medicine and surgery, medical sp! ecialty programs, geriatric and extended care, psychiatry, substance abuse, palliative care, hospice care, home-based primary care, rural mobile health, community care, and various other ambulatory care programs. Other responsibilities include:
Program Planning, development, direction, administration, and evaluation of Social Work Services.
Prepares short and long term goals for each fiscal year and reports on outcomes regularly, including budgetary goals.
Develops a systematic plan for reviewing and appraising the effectives of services provided by all social workers. Maintains and reports on Social Work Services Balanced Scorecard.
Oversees the Social Work Graduate School internship programs with affiliate schools.
Develop and analyze action plans, assist with the preparation of regulatory reviews (such as Joint Commission, CARF, and SOARS).
Participate in the oversight of facility Social Work clinical privileging or s! cope of practice process as well as tracking required staff licensure and/or certifications.
Develops procedures to monitor and control financial resources and preparing budget and grant requests.
Responsible for advising management of specific clinical or administrative issues within Social Work Service.
Responsible for managing the Integrated Ethics Program.
Participates in community outreach activities.

Note: Tour of Duty is Monday-Friday (8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) alternate tours or additional hours may be needed to support patient care needs.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed w! hen it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with! VA Policy.
Education. Have a masterÂ's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the masterÂ's degree in social work.
Licensure. Person hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the masterÂ's degree level.
English Language. Social Workers must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Preferred Experience: At least 3 years of experience managing, coordination, or leading Social Work Programs in a health care setting. Additional direct supervisory experience is preferred which may include clincial supervision and administrative supervision of subordinate social workers.

GS-14 Requirements
1. Experience, Education, and Licensure - Chief of Social Work Services must have evidence of possession of supervisory and management skills, must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in administration, demonstrating progressively more professional competency skills and judgment. They may have certification or other post-masterÂ's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that included a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. In addition, they must demonstrate the professional KSAs below.
2. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
a. Knowledge and skill in management/administration, which includes supervision, budget consultation! , negotiation, and monitoring.
b. Knowledge of legal, ethical,! and professional standards applicable to social work practice.
c. Ability to develop, maintain, and oversee social work programs in all settings. This includes identifying the needs for social work assessments, evaluation, treatment; determining priority needs for social work services; and recommending adjustments to staffing levels accordingly.
d. Demonstrated global knowledge of social work practice in health care and mental health settings including resources, and the policies and procedures pertaining to home and community based care, acute care, ambulatory care, long term care, performance measures, and clinical guidelines.
e. Ability to provide consultation to care line managers and other staff on social work qualification standards, social work practice, social work competency, social work productivity, and social work continuing education.
f. Ability to provide supervision for social work licensure and practice supervision for fa! cility social workers.
