SOUTH TEXAS VETERANS HEALTH CARE SYSTEM
The South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS) is comprised of two inpatient campuses: the Audie L. Murphy Memorial VA Hospital in San Antonio and the Kerrville VA Hospital in Kerrville, Texas. The STVHCS serves one of the largest primary service areas in the nation, with 63 counties, and is part of the VA Heart of Texas Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN 17), with offices located in Arlington, Texas. Providing a service to Veterans with a working staff of more than 3,100 employees, South Texas provides health care services for 93,000 Veterans. The STVHCS is a facility providing primary, secondary and tertiary health care in medicine, surgery, psychiatry, and rehabilitation medicine. It also supports a 90 bed Extended Care Therapy Center, a 30-bed Spinal Cord Injury Center, an eight-bed Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, and a Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center. Affiliated with the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, the system has an active ambulatory care program with numerous satellite outpatient clinics. The system dedicates 28,000 square feet to medical research, and there are more than 150 research investigators conducting over 500 research activities. The system has a National Institute of Health (NIH) funded General Clinical Research Center and the Veterans Evidence-Based Research Dissemination Implementation Center (VERDICT). The Biomedical Research Foundation of South Texas was created in 1990 to support the research mission of the system.

DUTIES:
The Primary responsibility of this position is to serve as Registered Nurse (Program Manager) for the GI Program. The RN Program Manager will manage the program resources (financial, human, material, or informational) to facilitate safe, effective, and efficient care. You will advise facility and Medical service leadership on clinical and administrative issues related to Endo GI patients. The Program Manager leads the effort to identify challenges, priorities for improvement, and opportunities for disseminating and sustaining best practices. You will track and reviews Endo GI consults: Initiates and/or receives, then assesses telephone triage priorities and intervenes following appropriate protocol if applicable for chief complaint referring patient/family to appropriate service as indicated. You will p articipates in consultation and patient care meetings and Instructs patient/family to assist in maintaining a functional state, providing education as appropriate. You will s chedules outpatient for specialty GI clinic and p erform Pre-Procedure phone calls (PASS). The RN Program Manager demonstrates competency performing Endo GI specialty procedures and m aintains test/procedure competencies designed for specific GI clinics. You will demonstrates technical skills; ensures equipment maintenance is performed according to manufacturerÂ's instructions and troubleshooting, calibration and upgrades. The RN Program Manage for the ENDO GI will demonstrate knowledge editing reports, providing pertinent clinic data to the provider for final interpretation within appropriate time frame and performs telephonic calls to re-schedule patient per providerÂ's instructions. Reviews No-show patient list and closes encounters daily.
Hours of work: 7:30am-4:00pm Monday through Friday.
Relocation expenses will not be reimbursed.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
1. GI clinic; GI procedures; Moderate Sedation experience
2. BSN, MSN or Masters in related field preferred
3. Current BLS/ACLS
4. Recent Endo GI Lab experience
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Citizen of the United States. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia . In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Must be proficient in spoken and written English .
Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel. The criteria are as follows: Practice: practice, ethics and resource utilization, Professional Development: performance, education/career development, Collaboration; collaboration, collegiality, Scientific Inquiry: quality of care, research. Education/Experience Requirements:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, no experience. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field and no experience; or a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) and no experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of experience; or a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of experience, or a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years experience.
