VA TEXAS VALLEY COASTAL BEND HEALTH CARE SYSTEM
The VATVCBHCS is comprised of the Corpus Christi Outpatient Clinic (CCOPC), Corpus Christi Specialty Clinic (CCOPC-S), Harlingen Outpatient Clinic (HOPC), Health Care Center at Harlingen (HCC), Laredo Outpatient Clinic (LOPC), and McAllen Outpatient Clinic (MCOPC). The VATVCBHCS is a virtual health care system providing secondary and tertiary health care in medicine, surgery, psychiatry, and rehabilitation medicine. The VATVCBHCS also operat! es a 100-patient Home Based Primary Care program and a 200-pat! ient Care Coordination Home Tele-Health Program. Through the utilization of 2 complex inpatient/emergency department contracts, approximately 1600 inpatient admission and 1200 ER visits are managed by VATVCBHCS. Affiliated with the University of Texas Regional Academic Health Campus, the system has an active ambulatory care program and serves as a teaching and training site for medical residents. The VATVCBHCS is responsible for an enrollee population of over 30,000 veterans and 25,000 outpatient visits annually.

You will be assigned as the Registered Nurse for Nephrology at the Corpus Christi Specialty Clinic with the VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System (VATVCBHCS). You will provide patient and family health education with a focus on self-management, prevention, and wellness, based on the patientÂ's goals. You will educate patients regarding clinic procedures and what to expect during the procedure. You will triage and apply a collaborative team approach in identifying, analyzing, and resolving patient care problems. You will use the nursing process and evidence-based practice to collaborate with the Teamlet and larger Team to meet patient care needs. Other duties include but are not limited to:
Monitor progress with clinical guidelines and/or pathways, analyzes variations and initiates appropriate actions.
Promote cost effective use of resources; effective least-expensive strategies expected! in non-face-to-face approaches (including telehealth).
Assist! with clinic procedures, monitors patient for any adverse effect.
Document observations, treatment, care given, education and patient/caregiver understanding.
Collaborate with patient and care providers.
Work Schedule: 8:00 - 4:30 p.m.; Alternate schedules may be necessary to meet the needs of the organization.

EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
2 - 3 years Nephrology/Renal/Dialysis care experience preferred
1 - 2 years Ambulatory/Outpatient experience preferred
Must have computer skills QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Citizen of the United States.
Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission o! n Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia . In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
Must be proficient in spoken and written English .
Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has! criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing ! Personnel. Education/Experience Requirements:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, no experience.
Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field and no experience; or a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) and no experience.
Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of experience; or a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of experience, or a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no experience.
Nurse ! II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.
Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years experience.
