Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS) is one of the largest integrated health care systems in the Department of Veterans Affairs and includes facilities in Temple, Waco, and Austin, TX. Community-Based Outpatient Clinics are located in Brownwood, Cedar Park, Palestine, and Bryan-College Station. NO STATE TAXES!!!

TOUR OF DUTIES: Rotating shifts, 7:30 am -4:00 pm, 3:30 pm - 12:00 am, and 11:30 pm - 8:00 am

DUTIES: The Acute Psychiatric Care unit is uniquely designed state-of-the art psychiatric care facility for inpatient mental health services. It is a component of the continuum of care within the Mental Health and Behavioral Medicine Department Department (MH&BM). The program is administered within a sheltered setting which can provide more structure and support than is usually available on an outpatient basis. LVN
performs patient care duties under the direct supervision of the RN. He/she
provides patient care which is appropriate to the cognitive, emotional,
spiritual, chronological, recreational, and diversion needs of the adult (ages
17-59) or geriatric (ag! es 60+) patient. The LVN demonstrates knowledge of
changes associated with aging and provides care based upon age related factors
as specified in his/her competencies. Contributes to the interdisciplinary team
in developing, implementing, and evaluating the patientÂ's treatment plan.
Promotes patient participation in the therapeutic community by fostering
self-reliance and independence. Performs assigned duties, treatments, or
procedures in acceptable timeframes, following established policies and
practices. The unit is staffed 24 hours per day, seven days per week with LVNs and nursing assistants. All staff members are trained in BCLS. Performs more complex treatments as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must be a citizen of U.S.

2. Must be a graduate of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State accrediting agency and/or the National League for Nursing at the! time the program was completed by the applicant.

3 . Must be ! proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).

4. Must have a full, current, active and unrestricted license as a graduate licensed practical or vocational nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States or District of Columbia.

5. Must meet pre-employment physical standards according to VA Policy.

Preferred Experience:
1. A minimum of three years of successful clinical nursing practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.

2. Broad knowledge base with experience in a variety of patient care settings and with diverse patient populations.

3. Demonstrated skill in performing multiple tasks, managing assignments, and expediting oral and written communications.

4. Demonstrated ability to interact with others effectively and appropriately, presenting a professional image of the service and the VA.

5. Skill in utilizing VistA, BCMA, CPR! S, Outlook, fax machines, copiers, etc.

GRADE DETERMINATIONS: Grades and salaries will be determined by the Professional Standards Board (PSB).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations.
