The El
Paso VAHCS is part of VISN 18 Network, and is a standalone ambulatory care
facility with over 600 employees and growing. This opportunity offers a

clinic with working hours from 8:00 am to 4:45 pm, Mondays through Fridays.

diagnostic and neurobehavioral ! histories and interviews, as well as
psychological and personality ! assessment, of Veterans referred to the TBI team.

education on TBI to internal and external sources as requested.

individual, group, and family psycho-educational service to TBI team referrals.

training, didactics, and supervision to psychiatry residents, psychology and

Responsibilities:
  • The
SPC functions as a coordinator of care of Veterans at high risk. Tracks
high-risk patients and monitors treatment to ensure that needed services are
being received.

  • Completes
referrals/consults from the National Crisis Hotline.

  • Plays
an active role in RCAs (Root Cause Analysis) for completed suicides by
perfor! ming individual case reviews, assists with preparation of yearly
aggregate summaries, and facilitates the implementation of system improvement
recommended by the Team.

  • Provides
training to clinical and non-clinical staff in the facility, CBOCÂ's and
community about risk factors, warning signs, treatment options and resources.

  • Establishes
an on-going training program with non-clinical frontline staff to assure that
they are aware of options for patients whom they come in contact during crisis
situations.

  • Promotes
the use of evidence-based interventions and strategies for suicide prevention
in the medical center.

  • Develops
and distributes outreach materials to include brochures, fact sheets, web content,
and other targeted information which highlights suicide prevention, warning
signs and risk factors.

  • Develops
and implements ongoing plan for providers, Veterans, families ! and members of
the community on risk factors and warning signs for suicide and treatment
options.

  • Independently
plans, designs, implements the program, determines program goals and
objectives, and completes reports for the VISN or VA Central Office. Results of
the work are considered technically authoritative and are normally accepted
without significant change.

  • Prepares
and maintains administrative records, data bases, and reports in accordance
with VACO and local guidelines.

  • Develops
and monitors quality improvement measures. The incumbent formulates and
implements an internal evaluation process through which progress toward goals
and objectives can be objectively monitored. Implements changes based on the
results of evaluations and performs impact assessments of these changes.
Ensures that any required external evaluation of the program is submit! ted
within established time frames.

  • Interfaces
with services throughout the facility, including but not limited to medical
providers and patient advocate, to resolve administrative and clinical
problems. This includes collaboration on individual patients and the
coordination of medical care within the treatment team.

    BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
    U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
    Have a doctoral
    degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American
    Psychological Association (APA) (the specialty area of the degree must be
    consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to b! e employed).
    Have successfully
    completed a professional psychology internship training program that has been
    accredited by APA.
    Hold a full,
    current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level
    in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (e.g., Puerto Rico),
    or the District of Columbia. There is an
    exception to the licensure which states: Â"The Secretary may waive the
    requirement of licensure for an individual psychologist for a period not to
    exceed 2 years from the date of employment on the condition that such a
    psychologist provide care only under the supervision of a psychologist who is
    so licensed. Non-licensed psychologists who otherwise meet the basic requirements
    may be given a temporary appointment as a graduate psychologist under the
    authority of 38 U.S.C. § 7405 (a) (1) (D). Failure to obtain licensure during
    that period is justification for termination of th! e temporary appointment. This
    may result in termination of employme! nt.

    2) ability to provide professional advice a! nd consultation in areas related to professional psychology and behavioral health, and
    3) knowledge of clinical research literature.
