Background and-or Security Investigation required DUTIES:
The Assistant Chief, Mental Health Service, working under the supervision and guidance of the Chief, Mental Health, is responsible for the supervision and management of Mental Health Services at the VA Medical Center in Amarillo and the Outpatient Clinics in Clovis, New Mexico and Lubbock, Texas. These responsibilities include the general supervision of staff physicians, staff psychologists, mid-level! providers and psychiatric nurses. Supervision of Lubbock and Clovis ou! tpatient staff is performed in a matrix model, as is supervision of positions other than physicians or mid-levels. Supervisory duties include all aspects of recruitment and selection of staff, rating of performance and recognition of employees, and any necessary corrective disciplinary action.

Takes an active role as a management team member with the Amarillo VA Health Care System (AVAHCS) and supports the achievement of the mission and goals. Will be actively responsible for continuous quality improvement and performance measurement related to Mental Health. Represents the AVAHCS, internally and externally, in such a manner as to reflect positively on the facility and the VA.

Provides leadership to staff through policy guidance and activities on behalf of patients and their clinical care. This activity will include supporting the Chief, Mental Health, in the evaluation and implementation of organizational realignment.

Tour of Duty: M-F day! s with on-call

Pay will be commensurate with training, experience, and market. Moving expenses have been authorized.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
A. Citizenship: Citizenship of the United States.

B. Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.

C. Licensure and Registration: Unrestricted licensure as a physician in any state or territory.

D. Board Certification: Board certified/eligible in Psychiatry.

E. First-Year Residency (Internship): Completed a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.

To be eligible to apply for core privileges in Psychiatry, the following criteria must be met; Current ! certification or active participation in the examination process leadin! g to certification in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry; OR, successful completion of an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or American Osteopathic Association accredited post-graduate training program in psychiatry; OR, be grandfather in from previous experience, AND, applicants for initial appointment must be able to demonstrate the provision of inpatient, outpatient, or consultative services for at least 200 patients during the past 12 months, or demonstrate successful completion of a hospital-affiliated accredited residency, special clinical fellowhip or research.

Psychiatry Core Privileges --Admit, evaluate, diagnose, treat, provide consultation and perform history and physical examinations to adult patients presenting with mental, behavioral, addictive or emotional disorders, utilizing all forms of psychological and socal treatment including medications.! Privileges include providing consultation with physicians in other fields regarding mental, behavioral or emotional disorders, pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, family therapy, behavior modification, consultation to the courts, and emergency psychiatry as well as the ordering of diagnostic, laboratory tests, and presribe medications.

Applicant's education and length of practice (experience) will be considered by a Compensation Panel in determining the salary of the applicant selected.
