Psychiatrist III- Under the general direction and supervision of the Clinical Director the psychiatrist on a Specialty Unit/Forensic Management Unit provides direct pati! ent care, actively participates in Case Formulation, Multi-Disciplinary Case Conferences, Treatment Plan Reviews, Medication Reviews, 90-Day Medication Reviews, BPRS, review of medication consents, and annual psychiatric evaluations when indicated. Oversees the clinical care provided for patients assigned. Advises the Clinical Director regarding patient care and other issues of the assigned unit that impact clinical and patient care. Directs the Treatment Team and treatment services to provide the required level of care. Will serve as member of assigned committees of the Medical Staff. Will participate in continuing education to provide knowledge and maintain licensure.
Essential Job Functions:
1) Accomplishes psychiatric assessments/evaluations, admission notes,, BPRS, progress notes and discharges meeting documentation requirements in CWS;
2) Actively participates in and supports Performance Improvement activities;
3) Demonstrates age specific ! competency;
4) Diagnoses using correct nomenclature. Presc! ribes psychoactive medications rationally and follows Administrative Codes;
5) Leads the interdisciplinary team to develop individualized treatment plans that achieve patients improvement. Makes admission/discharge decisions;
6) Participates in Medical Staff meetings, activities and committees;
7) Participates in continuing education to improve knowledge/maintain licensure. Obtains required CME credit and maintains current in all required CT&D training;
8) Supervise care given by his/her treatment team through rounds and reviews. Provides quality direct patient care. Notifies Clinical Director of difficult clinical situations and needs;
9) Treats and/or refers medical problems of patients for consultation and assistance when indicated. Follows up on consultation recommendations/laboratory results;
10) Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligation for ! disaster response and/or recover or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Must have knowledge and experience in milieu therapy; Demonstrate leadership and good interpersonal relationships especially with members of the treatment team and consumers; Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Registration or Licensure Requirements:
1) Licensed to practice medicine in Texas, plus successful completion of a residency program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Foundation or equivalent body;
2) Three years post-residency clinical experience in that specialty, plus certification by that specialty's board of the American Board of Medical Specialties or equivalent body;
3) Physicians with board certification or equivalent in two specialties, or in a specialty and a subspec! ialty automatically meet the certification
Initial Selectio! n Criteria:
1) Active Texas Medical license in good standing; 2) Active Texas Controlled Substances Registration (DPS) in good standing; 3) Active Federal Controlled Substances Registration (DEA) in good standing.
