The South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS) is comprised of two inpatient campuses: the Audie L. Murphy Memorial VA Hospital in San Antonio and the Kerrville VA Hospital in Kerrville, Texas. The STVHCS serves one of the largest primary service areas in the nation, with 63 counties, and is part of the VA Heart of Texas Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN 17), with offices located in Arlington, Texas. Providing a service to Veterans with a working staff of more than 3,100 employees, South Texas provides health care services for 93,000 Veterans. The STVHCS is a facility providing primary, secondary and tertiary health care in medicine, surgery, psychiatry, and rehabilitati! on medicine. It also supports a 90 bed Extended Care Therapy C! enter, a 30-bed Spinal Cord Injury Center, an eight-bed Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, and a Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center. DUTIES:
The Medicine Service Mission is to lead
satisfied staff dedicated to providing high quality patient centered care here
at STVHCS, a great tertiary training and research Veteran's Hospital. The Staff
Physician (Allergy/Immunology) position supports this mission through
administrative dependability, direct patient care, and support of their
Sec! tion's educational and research activities.

The physician must identify health
problems and design diagnostic and therapeutic plans to meet patient needs.
Incumbent will coordinate activities of other health service personnel, resolve
problems affecting patient care and provide appropriate education for patient
and/or family members regarding the patient's illness, care and management.

Administrative
Duties

include, but are not limited to, Leadership responsibilities; HR;Staff
Management; Time/Leave Management and Clinical Management.

Clinical Duties

include, but are not limited to, Patient Care; Medical/Clinical Knowledge;
Clinical Judgment; Interpersonal & Communication Skills; Professionalism
and System-Based Practice; Allergy/Immunology.

Education/Teaching Duties:
Practitioners are
expected to show effective in teaching, monitoring, and coordinating
educational activ! ities, and comply with necessary trainee supervision
requirements. !

Research Duties,

(if applicable): Physician researchers will show an ability to identify and
define significant Research and Development problems, to plan and execute a
precise research program, and to generate effective reports and results worthy
of publication.

Researchers are
responsible for oversight of any research staff that they supervise.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
A pre-placement physical examination will be completed prior to
appointment to determine the physical and mental fitness of candidates. The
examination will be concerned with the mental and physical ability of the
applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the proposed assignment and
will include requisite laboratory and other screening as required by Federal
regulatory agencies. Physician applicants must have the mental and physical
ability to perform core privileges required by the specialty position in
! addition to any specialty privileges requested.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
In
order to qualify for this position you must meet the following:

Basic Requirements

:

Must be proficient in written and spoken English.

Degree
of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of
education in medicine or osteopathic medicine

Current,
full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State,
Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia

First-Year
Residency (Internship)

Preferred

Experience:
It is desirable that the physician be board certified/eligible in Allergy and Immunology.

Proof of
current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) training at the time of credentialing and privileging
and re-privileging will be required.
