UNIT POSITION.
DUTIES:
The incumbent will be assigned to Mental Health and
Behavioral Medicine (MH&BM) Service, and provide psychiatric services to
patients seeking treatment; will possess the knowledge of biological and
psychological theories of mental health and mental illness; psychotherapeutic
modalities; substance abuse disorders and dual diagnosis; care of high risk
populations; use of community milieu as a therapeutic modality; family dynamics
and their role in mental illness and health; psychopharmacology; legal and
other factors such as documentation. Will possess the following necessary
skills: completion of a biopsychosocial assessment, interdisciplinary team
collaboration; coordination of care across systems; use of evolving new
psychiatric diagnos! tic classification systems and their identified role;
therapeutic c! ommunication with patients, family, and others involved with care
of the patient. The incumbent will provide on-call consultation
coverage in rotation with the other staff psychiatrists in Temple. The
incumbent will be under the supervision of the Chief, MH&BM, Temple. The
incumbent will perform teaching activities and supervision of fellows,
residents, and medical students, as available. The incumbent will maintain an academic
appointment with the Texas A&M College of Medicine Department of Psychiatry
and Behavioral Science. Research opportunities are available and encouraged.
Interest and expertise in management of chronic, serious mental illnesses is
preferred, including an interest in the provision of both pharmacotherapy and
psychotherapy. Board certification preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Must be a citizen of the United States.

Must have a degree of doctor of
medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in
medicine or osteopathic medicine.

Must be proficient in spoken and
written English as required by 38 U.S.C 7402(d) and 7407(d).
·
Must have a full and unrestricted
license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth
of the United States or District of Columbia.
·
Must! have completed a first-year
residency, or its equivalent, approved! by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for
the year in which it was completed.
Preferred
Experience :
Completion of a Psychiatry residency.
