- This position is an OD (Medical Officer of the Day) physician who is responsible for direct patient care and interviews, evaluates and initiates ! treatment as appropriate. Assists the nurses in treatment of patients per telephone communications. The OD physician evaluates walk-in patients, either for admission or for transfer to another facility and prepares the memorandum of Transfer. The OD physician evaluates employees who are injured on the job at SASH and diagnosis, treats, and/or refers as appropriate. The Medical Officer of the Day (OD Physician) shall be in charge of the facility during the absence of the Superintendent and/or the Clinical Director. The Medical Officer of the Day (OD Physician) shall be available at all times to ensure that medical and psychiatric care of patients is delivered.
1) Interview, evaluates, and initiates treatment of patients as appropriate upon admission to SASH;
2) Evaluates walk-in patients either for admission or for transfer to another facility as appropriate and prepares Memorandum of Transfers. Evaluates patients if ill or ! injured for treatment or referral as clinically indicated. Wor! ks closely with Mental Health Authorities (MHA's);
3) Complies with and administers rules and regulations of state agency and complies with State and Federal laws and regulations;
4) Demonstrates age specific competency;
5) Accomplishes all documentation required at time of admission in a timely manner in CWS;
6) Participates in continuing medical education to improve knowledge/maintain licensure. Obtains required CME credit and maintains current in CT&D required training;
7) Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligation for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may requaire an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Must have knowledge and experience in milieu therapy; demonstrate leadership and good interpersonal relationships especi! ally with members of the treatment team and consumers. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Registration or Licensure Requirements:
1) Licensed to practice medicine in Texas, plus successful completion of a residency program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Foundation or equivalent body;
2) Three years post-residency clinical experience in that specialty, plus certification by that specialty's board of the American Board of Medical Specialties or equivalent body;
3) Physicians with board certification or equivalent in two specialties, or in a specialty and a subspecialty automatically meet certification.
Initial Selection Criteria:
1) Active Texas Medical license in good standing; 2) Active Texas Controlled Substance registration in good standing; 3) Active Federal Controlled Substance registration in good standing
