Duties:
GENERAL DUTY DESCRIPTION: The Psychiatry Service telemedicine staff physic! ian provides comprehensive care for patients who have illnesses within the scope of Psychiatric Medicine. In addition to patient care, the psychiatrist may have responsibilities in other areas, such as education and research. The Psychiatry Staff physician will work in the Kerrville Mental Health Outpatient Clinic.
Administrative Duties include, but are not limited to, Leadership responsibilities; HR; Staff Management; Time/Leave Management and Clinical Management.

Clinical Duties include, but are not limited to, Patient Care; Medical/Clinical Knowledge; Clinical Judgment; Interpersonal & Communication Skills; Professionalism and Systems-Based Practice.

Education/Teaching Duties: Practitioners are expected to show effectiveness in teaching, monitoring, and coordinating educational activities, and comply with necessary trainee supervision requirements.

Research Duties, (if applicable): Physician researchers will show an ability to! identify and define significant Research and Development prob! lems, to plan and execute a precise research program, and to generate effective reports and results worthy of publication. Researchers are responsible for oversight of any research staff that they supervise.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
A pre-placement physical examination will be completed prior to appointment to determine the physical and mental fitness of candidates. The examination will be concerned with the mental and physical ability of the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the proposed assignment and will include requisite laboratory and other screening as required by Federal regulatory agencies. Physician applicants must have the mental and physical ability to perform core privileges required by the specialty position in addition to any specialty privileges requested.

The South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS) is comprised of two inpatient campuses: the Audie L. Murphy Memorial VA Hospital in San Antonio and the Kerrville VA Hospital in Kerrville, Texas. Qualifications & Evaluations

In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following:

Basic Requirements :
Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State! , Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
First-Year Residency (Internship)

Preferred Experience:
1. Board certified or working toward board certification in Psychiatry.
2. Four year accredited Psychiatry Resident Program.
3. Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training.
Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.
