Background and-or Security Investigation required DUTIES:
The incumbent will be a Coordinating
Psychiatrist for a newly developed interdisciplinary Posttraumatic Stress
Disorder team. The psychiatrist will admit, evaluate, diagnose, treat, provide consultation and perform history and physical examinations to adult patients presenting with mental, behavioral, addictive or emotional disorders, utilizing all forms of psychological and socal treatment including medications. Privileges include providing consultation with physicians in other fields regarding mental, behavioral or emotional disorders, pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, family therapy, behavior modification, consultation to the courts, and emergency psychiatry as well as the ordering of diagnostic, laboratory tes! ts, and presribe medications.

Tour of Duty: M-F days with on-call

Pay will be commensurate with training, experience, and market.

AVAHCS currently offers general medical and surgery inpatient
care, day surgery, long term care, home based primary care and specialty care,
mental health services including substance abuse treatment, homeless services
and an OEF/OIF program to a population of 64,400 veterans in a primary service
area that covers counties in the Texas Panhandle, northern Oklahoma Panhandle
and eastern New Mexico. We are a level 2 facility serving 25,602 unique
Veterans. In FY12, there were 2,315 inpatients treated and 264,380 outpatient
visits! . There are currently 45 total operating hospital beds, which includes ! 14
ICU beds and 120 operating community living center beds. The FY13 annual budget
is $180+million. Our facility provides an active teaching environment for
medical students and residents through a formal affiliation with Texas Tech
University Health Sciences Center. The rotation includes approximately 50
residents in Internal Medicine, Family Practice, and Specialty Care. Other
affiliations provide a variety of educational opportunities in pharmacy,
optometry, nursing and various allied health programs.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
A. Citizenship: Citizenship of the United States.

B. Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.

C. Licensure and Registration: Unrestricted licensure as a physician in any state or territory.

D. Board Certification: Board certified/eligible in Psychiatry.

E. First-Year Residency (Internship): Completed a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.

To be eligible to apply for core privileges in Psychiatry, the following criteria must be met; Current certification or active participation in the examination process leading t! o certification in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and N! eurology or the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry; OR, successful completion of an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or American Osteopathic Association accredited post-graduate training program in psychiatry; OR, be grandfather in from previous experience, AND, applicants for initial appointment must be able to demonstrate the provision of inpatient, outpatient, or consultative services for at least 200 patients during the past 12 months, or demonstrate successful completion of a hospital-affiliated accredited residency, special clinical fellowhip or research.
