The Nurse Practitioner is under the supervision of the Chief Psychiatrist of the Program upon which they work. The Nurse Practitioner provides general psychiatric care for the patients within the scope of their privileges and delegation from their supervising physician at North Texas State Hospital. The Nurse Practitioner provides primary psychiatric care for the patient population, and is responsible for Psychiartic Evaluations, other psychiatric assessments as well as medication management. Within his/her scope of p! ractice and delegation, they can provide coverage for the psyc! hiatric physicians in their absence. The Nurse Practitioner has no financial responsibility, but is accountable for assigned property
Essential Job Functions:
1. Provides quality psychiatric care through prompt and appropriate diagnosis, treatment, and management of psychiatric disorders. (20%)
2. Under the supervision of their delegating physician, prescribes and manages the use of medications in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Texas Board of Nursing and the Texas Medical Board in order to treat patients of NTSH. (10%).
3. Assures accurate and comprehensive documentation (10%)
4. Completes Psychiatric Evaluations. Evaluates and provides treatment for psychiatric patients, including prescribing medications and ordering and interpreting lab work and x-rays as indicated and within scope of practice and ability. (35%)
5. Serves on appointed committees as assigned. (5%)
6. Shall accept safety as a! personal responsibility and comply with all established rules, regulations and procedures. Completes mandatory training as scheduled (5%)
7. Works harmoniously with other employees to generate a productive, cohesive and culturally diversified work environment; refrain from participation in discussions which create a negative or hostile environment, and establish and maintain a positive rapport with and toward persons served (5%)
8. Will comply with all Facility/Department/Program policies concerning dress codes (5%)
9. Comply with all NTSH Security policies (5%).
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Experience in working with psychiatric patients. Current knowledge of medications, including indications, dosage, side effects, drug to drug and food to drug interactions and adverse affects. Knowledge of standards set by DSHS, JC, Medical Staff By-laws, NTSHâs Policy and Procedure Manual, and CMS. Ability to use various dictating equipme! nt and a computer.
Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas and an approval letter from the Texas Board of Nursing (TBN) to use the appropriate nursing specialty title, plus graduation from a college or university accredited by the TBN with a bachelorâs degree in nursing and a Masterâs degree in nursing with a clinical specialty specific to the position assumed. Licensed to practice as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner by the State of Texas. Certified as a Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner or an Adult Psychiatric Clinical Nurse specialist by an approved certifying body. Ability to obtain and maintain priviliges through the facility Medical Staff.
Initial Selection Criteria:
Licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas and an approval letter from the Texas Board of Nursing (TBN) to use the appropriate nursing specialty title, plus graduation from a college or university accredited by the TBN with a bache! lorâs degree in nursing and a Masterâs degree in nursing with a clinical specialty specific to the position assumed. Licensed to practice as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner by the State of Texas. Certified as an Adult Psychiatric Clinical Nurse specialist by an approved certifying body. Ability to obtain and maintain priviliges through the facility Medical Staff.
Additional Information:
If the qualified individual is assigned to work on the Vernon campus of NTSH, 6.8% maximum security pay will be added to their base salary.
