Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS) is one of the largest integrated health care systems in the Department of Veterans Affairs and includes facilities in Temple, Waco, and Austin, TX. Community-Based Outpatient Clinics are located in Brownwood, Cedar Park, Palestine, and Bryan-College Station. NO STATE TAXES!!!

This position is located in Temple, Texas.

The incumbent will be assigned to the Mental Health and Behavioral Medicine (MH&BM) Service, and will be one of two psychiatrists providing mental health consultation liaison services to patients admitted to medical/surgical floors. Incumbent will also be the front line provider for psychiatric patients presenting for treatment in the Emergency Department. The primary responsibilities will be the assessment, management, and coordination of care for individuals with serious mental illnesses, including PTSD. The new Center of Excellence for PTSD and the Inter-professional Fellowship in Psychosocial Rehabilitation of the Seriously Mentally Ill are both located a short distance away from our main site and represent excellent optional research and additional teaching opportunities respectively. The incumbent will provide light on-call consultation coverage in rotation with several other staff psychiatrists in Temple. The incumbent will be under the supervision of Chief, MH&BM, Temple VAMC. The incumbent will perform teaching activities and supervision of fellows, residents, and medical students, as available. The incumbent will maintain an academic appointment with the Texas A&M College of Medicine Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science. Research opportunities are available and encouraged. Interest and expertise in management of chronic, serious mental illnesses is preferred, including an interest in the provision of both pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy. Board certification preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Must be a citizen of the United States.

Must have a degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.

Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C 7402(d) and 7407(d).

Must have a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or District of Columbia.

Must have completed a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.

GRADE DETERMINATIONS: S alaries will be determined by a Compensation Panel.
