Nurse Practitioner

Description: Texas Department of Family and Protective Services is presently looking of Nurse Practitioner right now, this position will be settled in Texas. Work involves assessing, planning and providing comprehensive patient care independently or in collaboration with health care professionals. May plan, assign, and/or supervise the w! ork of others. Works under general direction of an attending psychiatrist with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.
Creates and maintains accurate records, reports, and appropriate legal documents. Manages primary acute or chronic care in collaboration with various health team members. Identifies problems and makes suggestions for change to facilitate continuity of patient care, meeting patient needs and the mission of a health care facility. Reviews medical records and patient assessments to determine compliance with policies and procedures, correctness of assessment, or quality of service. Performs other duties as assigned.
The Nurse Practitioner will join a team of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, and others caring for geriatric, hearing impaired, long term or multiple disability patients at Austin State Hospital. Responsible for ongoing care and treatment of patients, including medication orders for an assi! gned case load. Collaboration with treatment team is essential! ; ability to prescribe is a must. Admission and discharge decisions will be made n conjunction with a physician.
Evaluate patients presenting for admission to the hospital. Perform psychiatric evaluations, mental status examinations, and screening for non-psychiatric medical illnesses. Respond to psychiatric and medical emergencies within the hospital. Conduct referral screenings by telephone. Work closely with multidisciplinary treatment teams.

EJF 3. Plans, directs, supervises, and implements treatment that is medically necessary, in accordance with current accepted practices, and clinically justified for individual patients.
EJF 4. Participates in and complies with ASH Safety and Risk Management activies.
E! JF 5. Documentation in the medical record is clear, concise, and reflects the response to treatment.
EJF 6. Participates in quality improvement activities
EJF 7. Maintains mcredentialing and privileging appropriate to position.
EJF 8. TEAM WORK: treatment team, responsiveness to calls, demonstrates a cooperative and supportive manner in working with supervisors, and other treatment team members.

1. Knowledge of psychiatric principl! es, practices and methods.
2. Knowledge of methods and procedures i! n the field.
3. Knowledge of principles of the development, implementation and documentation of
individualized care and treatment plans.
4. Skill in the care and treatment of patients.
5. Skill in the use of psychiatric diagnostic and treatment tools and equipment.
6. Ability to plan, assign and/or supervise the work of others.
7. Ability to examine, assess and treat mental disorders.
8. Ability to prepare and supervise preparation of case histories and medical records of patients.
9. Understanding of the role of medical ethics in the practice of psychiatric nursing and the
Interrelationship of the law.
10. Ability to assume leadership roles, including serving as leader of a multi-disciplinary treatment team.
Ability to code and bill for services provided and documented.
Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Registered and licensed in Texas as an Advance Nurse Practitioner with a specialty in psychiatric care! .
Initial Selection Criteria:
1. Masters degree from an advanced nurse practitioner program with a specialty in psychiatry/mental healt treatment.
2. Licensed as an advanced nurse practitioner in Texas by the Board of Nursing.
