Performs advanced (senior-level) psychiatric work. Work involves coordinating! psychiatric activities, monitoring trends and activities, making recommendations for improvement, diagnosing and treating patients, and administering specialized psychiatric treatments and procedures. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Under the general supervision of the Mental Health Director, responsible for the extension of clinic services in the delivery of health care. Primarily responsible for the direct psychiatric services to Region clients. Will provide clinical support as a team member to the Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACT) and Mobile Crisis Outreach Team (MCOT). Travels throughout the service area to provide a wide variety of medical and psychiatric services. Keeps client, family, and staff members informed of clientâs medical/mental condition. Consults in specialty to physicians and other personnel. Attends appropriate seminars a! nd other training sessions to keep abreast of current medical ! practice and Region procedures. Performs related work as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES High level of knowledge in medicine, general psychiatry and community psychiatry to ensure appropriate treatment of Region consumers. Basic knowledge of the principles of the development, implementation and documentation of individualized care and treatment plans. Knowledge of clientâs rights, abuse and confidentiality policies and procedures. Ability to evaluate clients, set up and carry out an effective course of treatment utilizing the abilities of other clinical personnel with a minimum of direction. Ability to work as a team member; establish good working relationships; plan, organize and execute work; to set and achieve goals; to keep records and make reports. Ability to progress in and gain additional skills and knowledge in the techniques and methods of medicine/psychiatry as well as community services programming. Demonstrated capability in medical and clinical! administration. Teaching skills to provide in service training. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to serve as liaison between the Region and other MHMR facilities and community service entities.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Education: Medical degree from an accredited college or university plus psychiatry residency.
Experience: Psychiatry residency (two years of experience in a psychiatric setting may be allowed to substitute for one
year of residency).
REQUIRED LICENSES AND CECERTIFICATIONS Licensed to practice medicine in Texas; Board certification preferred; psychiatry residency approved by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education or an equivalent body. A valid Texas driverâs license and good driving record is required along with a copy of a valid auto insurance card.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat! , lift 25 pounds, sit for an extended period, and reach overhead.
