The South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS) is com! prised of two inpatient campuses: the Audie L. Murphy Memorial! VA Hospital in San Antonio and the Kerrville VA Hospital in Kerrville, Texas. The STVHCS serves one of the largest primary service areas in the nation, with 63 counties, and is part of the VA Heart of Texas Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN 17), with offices located in Arlington, Texas. Providing a service to Veterans with a working staff of more than 3,100 employees, South Texas provides health care services for 93,000 Veterans. The STVHCS is a facility providing primary, secondary and tertiary health care in medicine, surgery, psychiatry, and rehabilitation medicine. It also supports a 90 bed Extended Care Therapy Center, a 30-bed Spinal Cord Injury Center, an eight-bed Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, and a Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm DUTIES:
This position is located in the non-invasive vascular
laboratory within Surgical Service for South Texas Veterans Health Care System
(STVHCS). Incumbent will direct the clinical
vascular laboratory activities.
Responsibilities include independently performing a variety of technical
procedures which require extensive knowledge of peripheral vascular and cerebrovascular
anatomy, physiology and pathology. Also
includes managing the ultrasound research program for the vascular surgeons and
coding procedures for third party billing.
Additionally, the incumbent must display independent judgment, !
ingenuity, and initiative. The duties encompass
the performance of complex non-invasive examinations involving the application of
high frequency ultrasonic waves to humans for diagnosis of disease. It also includes the performance of imaging studies
for visualization and physiological testing for the valuation of hemodynamic
significance of disease. Additionally,
this position entails broad clinical care of patients with vascular disease who
are seen in outpatient and inpatient status.
Incumbent follows Radiologist protocol of patients when performing their
procedures. Evaluations the nature of critical
and emergency procedures, and rearranges patients scheduled to accommodate them. She/he will maintain records of patients
examined and works under the general direction of the lead technician with
supervisory authority exercised by a Supervisory Management Analyst.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
·
Citizenship. Citizen of the United States.

·
Certification. All
applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American
Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) (R).

·
Experience or Education.
Completion of a full-time training
course of at least 24 months duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school
diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an
associateÂ's degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in
Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), and certification by the American Registry of
Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in radiology.

·
Public Law 97-35, the
Consumer-Patient Radiation Health and Safety Act of 1981, requires that persons
who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR
Part 75, Standards for the Accreditation of Educational Programs an! d the
Credentialing of Radiographic Personnel.
Essentially, they must have successfully completed an educational
program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and
is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and be certified as
radiographers in their field.

·
English Language Proficiency. Diagnostic
Radiologic Technologists must be proficient in spoken and written English.

Creditable
Experience

Knowledge of
Current Radiologic Technology Practice. To be creditable, experience must have
demonstrated possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and other
characteristics (also referred to as Â"core competenciesÂ") associated with
current radiologic technology practice.
This may have been evidenced by the equivalent of 1 year of active
practice, which is paid or non-paid employment as a DRT as defined by ARRT.

Quality of
E! xperience.
Experience is only creditable if it was earned after com! pletion of the
basic requirements identified above.
Experience as a graduate DRT is creditable provided the candidate
functioned as a DRT and subsequently passed the certification examination.

Part-Time Experience. Part-time experience as a DRT is creditable
according to its relationship to full-time work week. For example, a DRT would receive 1 week of
full-time credit for each 2 weeks of half-time work.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-09 LEVEL:
Completion of 1 year of experience equivalent to
the GS-08 grade level directly related to ultrasound involving the delivery of ionizing radiation and
must fully meet the KSAs at that level. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate
the following technical KSAs and demonstrate the potential to acquire the
assignment specific KSAs designated.
For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level
duties must consist of significant scope, complex! ity (difficulty), and range of
variety, and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time.

Demonstrated

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1.
Knowledge of cross-sectional and
longitudinal vascular anatomy.

2.
Ability to provide intra-cranial and
trans-cranial vascular examinations.

3.
Knowledge in
pre-procedural, procedural, and post-procedural care of patients.

4.
Ability to assess factors that may
contradict the procedure.

5.
Ability to
communicate orally and in writing with people from different social and
economic backgrounds.

6.
Ability to provide
Doppler information of peripheral vessels.
